ADVOCATE, WRITER
Rebecca nagle
Who is Rebecca Nagle? Rebecca Nagle is an award-winning writer, advocate, and podcast host who has worked tirelessly to highlight issues that plague Native Communities, especially those that hurt Native women. She recently received the American Mosaic Journalism Prize and has been listed on YBCA’s “100 List” and American Indian Enterprise Development’s “Native American 40 under 40.” More importantly, Nagle is a member of the Cherokee Nation and identifies as two-spirit. From the Washington Post to USA Today, her work has made massive divots in the violence against Native women and has been heard around the world. Her podcast, “This Land,” covered the Sharp v. Murphy Supreme Court Case that discussed the constitutionality of Congress dismantling the Creek Nation Reservation in Oklahoma. Her surprising familial connections and vast knowledge of the subject matter made this an important outlet to protest this vile injustice. Soon, season two of “This Land” covers how the “far right is using Native children to dismantle tribes.” Through these sources, Nagle is also able to address the missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) epidemic in the United States and shed a much-needed light on the sheer amount of uninvestigated deaths. By promoting the richness of Native cultures, Nagle has been able to dismantle stereotypes and prove that Natives can make deep, meaningful impacts on society when given the opportunity. From climate change to MMIW, Nagle has become a beacon of hope and a powerhouse for change and has shown young Natives across the country that they, too, can make a difference.
Season Two of “This Land” released on August 23rd, so catch up on Season One!
