OUR STORY

Chase Dollinger (Chinook Tribe of Washington) and
Sophie Wendling (Mattaponi tribe of Virginia) are both deeply rooted in their Native American heritage, participating in year round in activities with their respective tribes. From Canoe-Journeys to PowWows, these powerful gatherings have instilled in them a profound sense of responsibility to uplift and support not only the local tribes where the live, but those around the country who are seeking their deserved and inherent dignity and respect. To make a local impact, they co-founded an Affinity Space for Native Americans at Sacred Heart Preparatory, partnering with the local tribe (Ohlone) to create land acknowledgements and repair a historically distrustful relationship. Moreover, Chase's tribe is not federally recognized whereas Sophie's is, so they found a mutual passion for examining the intersection between federal law and tribal law, and the range of impacts it has on tribal communities and culture. Ergo, Chase and Sophie have been on a mission to educate about Native American cultures and communities--ultimately, with the purpose of advocating for indigenous rights and tribal sovereignty. So, please join them on their mission and reclaim your heritage!

"In spite of our agonizing history, Native American people find much to celebrate. The songs, the dances, the culture and traditions surrounding planting and harvests, the prayers that are sent upward for healing and peace, and the welcoming of children into our families, are all reasons for us to keep moving forward with optimism."
