Native Americans are one of the most prominent communities in the United States to fight for the rights of animals. For example, many tribes are calling for the removal of a historic dam to rehabilitate the salmon in that river that used to roam free in that region. Salmon used to be a fundamental part of Native culture, used for food and cultural practices, and with the rehabilitation of these salmon is the rehabilitation of cultural practices as well. One of the four dams in the Klamath River has already been demolished, helping the salmon population immensely and inspiring others to join the fight in demolishing the other three. It is predicted that the other will be gone by the end of the year also helping to restore sacred land that has been under water for years. This will be the largest dam removal process in United States history and tribes along the river have been the key pieces in getting these removals to happen at all.
