On August 24, United States Treasurer Marilynn Malerba of the Mohegan Tribe went to Providence Forge to discuss the impacts of the Biden administration's investments on the Chickahominy Indian Tribe. During her visit, she toured the Tribal Health Clinic, seeing first hand the impacts of the American Rescue Plan through the Homeowner Assistance Fund.
Moreover, Malerba hosted an economic summit with tribal leaders from across Virginia to find solutions to the countless financial problems that have plagued tribes for hundreds of years. The Treasury department has provided unprecedented funding to Indigenous communities with over 20 billion dollars and 234 million dollars to Native-owened businesses, beginning with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s historic visit to the Rosebud Reservation last year. Additionally, Secretary Yellen, with the help of the Financial Literacy and Education Commission, published a website dedicated to promoting financial literacy and educational resources for Indigenous peoples.
