President Joe Biden has pledged to give Native Americans a stronger say in federal affairs after years of Native being ignored by the federal government. An in-person summit will be held to discuss tribal affairs and include indigenous representatives in decision-making on community funding. The summit will be held in November, during National Native American Heritage Month. This summit will hopefully create uniform standards for federal agencies to consult tribes on the basis of existing treaties and tribal rights. Biden has also pledged to designate Avi Kwa Ame, a desert mountain in Nevada sacred to Native Americans, as a national monument. He also pledged $135 million dollars to support Native communities in various states to help relocate based on climate-based threats. Similarly, he's pushing through $9.1 billion dollars for Native American health care. This news for the federal government is a huge step in strengthening Native American communities and their families hopefully leading to an incline in tribal sovereignty in the future.
